Combat Evolved: Halo 3 to Halo 4

I have discussed this with quite a few friends and fellow Halo fans recently and I feel like this needs to be said. It's short and to the point, but it's worth noting.

Just because a game was good a decade ago, doesn't mean it will be just as good now. Halo 3 is a lot of fun. I spent COUNTLESS hours playing it. I reached Brigadier Grade 3 and a highest level of 46. I was pretty dang good at it.

...but it's antiquated now. There is NO way that it could last in the industry today. If 343 made a game exactly like Halo 3, but just put some spit and polish on it...it would flop...HARD. They need to be able to compete with fast-paced titles such as Call of Duty and Battlefield. A Halo game without sprint, would flounder in the sea of FPS titles that do.

Going back and playing Halo 3 is fun. It's nostalgic and it is more than capable of producing even more memories and good times as ever before...but it had it's glory days. Let it go.

  1. I don't think a Halo chasing the tail of other titles which causes it to loose its identity more would last in the Industry either.

Halo should stay a well balanced and skill based shooter rather than the loadout filled, ordnance spewing garbage we got in Halo 4.

    1. I respect your view, however I disagree. Drax's view mirrors that of my own. Halo 4 had a bit of the old and a bit of the new. In no way am I saying it was perfect, not by a long shot, but I disagree that it was garbage. A series has to experiment, and innovate to stay alive and fresh. Halo 4 is hardly chasing the tail of other titles, more chasing some form of success that a Halo 3 v2 wouldn't have a hope in hell of catching.

    2. Yes because Madden's always innovate every year. No the gameplay could be the same forever and not get stale, similar to how Chess is still played, nobody goes "Oh Chess that old shitty game that isnt innovative at all!"

No what Halo needs to do is stay true to core Halo, like more similar to Halo CE, 2, and 3 than Reach and Halo 4.

All while adding more features and updating graphics as much as they can WITHOUT impacting performance. CoD is doing THIS aspect well, however Halo games are not. Read: Halo 4 has less features than Halo Reach, and often times the game dips below ~29fps.
